Wilberforce was established by colonial Governor Lachlan Macquarie as an official town of Sydney.
He named it as the Macquarie Town on December 1810.
The name was altered to Wiberforce in honor of the British politician, William Wilberforce, after several years.
The Macquarie School House was established on 1819 and the St. John’s Anglican Church on 1859.
The Church design was made by Edmund Thomas Blacket and constructed by J. Atkinson on 1856.
