Governor Macquarie granted George Druitt with 2000 acres of land, which he called the Mount Druitt. Major Druitt died in the land in 1842.
On August 1881, rail services started to operate in the region with a level crossing and two platforms. In 1995, an electric train service was established, which was managed by Joseph Cahill. It was relocated near the new The Great Western shopping center in 1975.
Queen Elizabeth II opened the Mount Druitt Hospital, a 200-bed hospital, in 1982.
