Kurmond was once a soldier`s settlement with abundance of orchards. It was formerly known as the Longleat, which name was a derived from the names of Kurrajong and Richmond towns.
Fred Stephens wrote the memoir “From Kurmond Kid to Cancer Crusader”, where he describes his life on 1930`s as a kid who grew in the soldier`s settlement area.
The Kurmond Public School was the only academic institution in the village during that time.
